In recent years, the domestic market for transformer cores has seen steady growth, with demand remaining robust-driven by grid upgrades, the retrofitting of aging equipment, and infrastructure expansion for new energy sources. The implementation of "dual-carbon" policies and the widespread adoption of energy-efficient transformers have directly stimulated demand for high-performance cores; by 2025, the domestic market size exceeded 38 billion yuan. Traditional stacked-lamination cores, benefiting from mature manufacturing processes and cost-effectiveness, continue to hold a stable share of mainstream markets such as civil power distribution and standard industrial equipment. Meanwhile, overseas demand has risen in tandem; domestically produced cores are exported in large volumes to regions like Southeast Asia and Africa, securing an increasing market share in the small-to-medium transformer sector and demonstrating strong resilience against market fluctuations.

 

High-performance, energy-efficient cores have become the primary growth driver, while low-end, standard cores are gradually being phased out. While conventional silicon steel cores once met only basic transformation needs, new products-such as wound cores and amorphous alloy cores-are now growing rapidly, maintaining an average annual market growth rate exceeding 8%. These advanced cores offer low energy loss, minimal noise, and high efficiency, making them ideal for high-end applications such as photovoltaic energy storage, EV charging piles, wind power infrastructure, and heavy-load urban grid equipment. Notably, the market for amorphous alloy cores is expanding year by year, occupying a pivotal position in the high-efficiency transformer sector, whereas standard stacked cores are increasingly relegated to low-load applications and retrofitting projects for older equipment; this trend of market stratification is becoming increasingly pronounced.

 

The competitive landscape of the transformer core industry is clearly defined, characterized by concentrated raw material supply, fierce competition in the mid-range segment, and a technological monopoly in the high-end segment. Upstream production capacity for core materials-such as high-permeability grain-oriented silicon steel and amorphous alloy ribbons-is highly concentrated among a few leading enterprises with strong bargaining power, creating supply barriers for high-end core products. While there are numerous domestic manufacturers of small-to-medium cores-leading to intense competition and relatively transparent pricing in the low-to-mid-range market-leading companies that have mastered core technologies (such as precision stacking, seamless winding, and amorphous alloy processing) firmly dominate the high-end market. Leveraging stable product performance and energy-efficiency advantages, these leaders are steadily increasing their market share. Overall, the industry is shifting from pure price competition to comprehensive competition based on quality, craftsmanship, energy efficiency, and customization capabilities, making technological upgrades the key to a company's market standing.
