Storage Requirements For Silicon Steel Coils And Sheets

The fundamental requirement for storing silicon steel coils and sheets is strict control over warehouse environmental conditions to prevent rust, condensation, and coating damage, thereby preserving the material's electromagnetic properties and surface quality. As the insulating coating on silicon steel has limited corrosion resistance and the base steel is highly susceptible to moisture-induced oxidation, raw materials must be stored in specialized, enclosed, dry, and well-ventilated indoor warehouses. Outdoor stacking and exposure to rain or moisture are strictly prohibited, as is storage in environments containing corrosive elements such as acids, alkalis, dust, or oily fumes. Warehouse conditions must maintain a constant temperature and low humidity to prevent surface condensation caused by significant diurnal temperature fluctuations; indoor relative humidity must be stably controlled below 60%. Doors and windows should be closed promptly during rainy or humid weather, and dehumidification equipment activated when necessary, to prevent atmospheric moisture from condensing on the material surface and causing oxidation spots or rust that could render the material unusable. Furthermore, the storage area floor must be level, clean, and free of standing water or debris, and located away from heat sources, moisture-emitting pipes, and corrosive materials, thereby eliminating environmental risks to silicon steel quality at the source.

Standardized stacking practices are essential to prevent deformation, impact damage, and breakage of silicon steel coils and sheets; stacking protocols must be strictly differentiated based on product form. Full coils must be stored vertically on specialized cradles, ensuring the coil axis remains horizontal and the load is evenly distributed; laying coils flat, stacking them in a way that causes uneven pressure, or placing heavy loads on top is strictly prohibited to avoid irreversible mechanical damage such as core collapse, edge deformation, or surface creases. Adequate spacing must be maintained between coils to prevent collisions or scratches during handling and storage. Cut-to-length silicon steel sheets must be neatly stacked flat and categorized; moisture-proof wooden or plastic pallets must be placed at the base to isolate the sheets from ground moisture-direct contact with the floor is forbidden. Each batch of sheets must be wrapped in waterproof, dust-proof film and covered with a protective lid to prevent dust accumulation, scratching, and moisture exposure. Stacking heights must be strictly controlled to prevent excessive piling, which could cause deformation of bottom sheets due to pressure or damage to the insulation layer from compression. Materials must be stored in designated zones based on batch, grade, and specifications, with clear labeling to prevent material mixing or retrieval errors and to facilitate efficient future use.

Strict adherence to daily warehouse management and periodic inspection protocols is essential to ensure the quality stability of silicon steel during long-term storage. Before warehousing, the integrity of the packaging must be verified-with damaged packaging promptly resealed-and the sheet surfaces inspected for initial defects or rust; non-conforming products must be isolated. During routine storage, personnel are prohibited from stepping on the sheets or striking surfaces with hard objects; all forms of man-made physical damage must be prevented to safeguard the integrity of the surface insulation coating throughout the storage period. A periodic inspection system must be established for long-term inventory to monitor surface conditions, packaging integrity, warehouse humidity, and ventilation, while also ensuring the timely removal of accumulated dust and the detection of potential issues such as minor rust or moisture-related damage. Furthermore, the "First-In, First-Out" (FIFO) principle must be applied, prioritizing the use of materials received earlier to minimize the risks of performance degradation and oxidation associated with prolonged static storage, thereby ensuring that every batch of silicon steel coils or sheets released meets production standards regarding dimensional accuracy, surface condition, and electromagnetic properties.
